I also think the movie is more interesting late at night than in the middle of the day. The Thirteenth Guest isn't really scary, but it is more interesting at night. It takes something much more frightening to really scare me. I'm talking about tough stuff, here. Like The Martha Stewart Show and Bridezillas. Now there's horror for you. *shudder*
Anyway, I think my headache really messed with my opinion of this one when I first saw it. Not that I consider it high art now, but it's not as terrible as I thought or wrote at the time. I can definitely see myself watching it again in another year or so. It's not perfect, but somehow that adds to its charm, and the actors are fun to watch. Lyle Talbot, Ginger Rogers, and J. Farrell McDonald are entertaining, even if they don't give Oscar-worthy performances.
I'll leave you with a couple of cute Ginger screen-caps - both stolen from this post at VKMfan's blog, Gingerology . All Ginger! All the Time! Thanks, Huey. And, everyone else, please remember to keep him and his town in your prayers (read more here).

Not sure how I discovered your blog...I think through Fedoras and High Heels. My philosophy...you can never follow too many classic movie blogs.
ReplyDeleteMy husband LOVES Ginger!! Our puppy is named Ginger because of you-know-who. She is the cream of the crop in his eyes. This is a movie of hers we have never seen.
By the way, I LOVE your last name. Gary Cooper is my #2 guy (just a smidge behind William Holden). I am rather in love with him, even though he's been dead longer than I have been alive!!
No problem, AC!!! I just hope I can get up and running here soon - great article, BTW...and thanks for the 'shout-out'! :-)

Hello again, AC! Well, we FINALLY have all the TV/internet stuff back up and running, so hopefully the next few days I can get back with the business of running 'Gingerology' in a proper manner...thanks again for the 'shout-out'!!!
ReplyDelete...well, I just read the entry from Patti above - Hi!!! Glad to hear of other GingerFreaks out there! Actually, you could probably 'commiserate' with my wife... start up a 'GingerWidow' club, perhaps? :-]
Just inviting you to stop by Gingerology and yak...I will hopefully get it rolling again pretty soon...I have been quite a bit 'out of pocket' the last few weeks, as an EF-4 tornado basically ripped the town we live in right down the middle - Fortunately, we live on the north edge of town, but about three blocks over, the carnage begins.
Patti, I saw on your 'profile' or whatever that you were a 'Southern Belle' :-) , and just hoping you weren't affected by the storms back on 4/27... it's kind of hard to find a region in the southeast that wasn't, unfortunately...
Mucho thanks to our most gracious 'host' AC for allowing me to yak with a fellow blogger! BTW, Patti, you might know this, but, just in case... 'Amanda Cooper' is Ginger's character's name in the movie 'Carefree'... a MUST-watch Ginger and Fred (GandF) movie...trust me, your hub will really like it...it's VERY Gingery! :-] ...speaking of which, as always...
Keep It Gingery (KIG), y'all!
